25% tax slapped on IPL

Chennai super kingsChennai: Tamil Nadu government unanimously passed an amendment to the entertainment bill at the state legislative assembly today. According to the amended bill three more industruies, including IPL would be brought under the ambit of the entertainment tax.

IPL cricket tourney being played in Chennai will be slapped with 25 per cent entertainment tax while DTH services will be charged 30 per cent. The Bill was introduced in the State assembly by State Commercial Tax and Registration Agri Krishnamurthy.

According to the Bill, for the IPL matches, 25 per cent will be levied as entertainment tax on the total sum of cash including the tax amount paid, for getting permission to hold the T20 matches (as part of the IPL) in Chennai. Taxes on Cinema theatre would also be increased. The Tamilnadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said that this would be the way the state would gain more funds for their projects.
