Aadhar violates Citizenship Act: VS

VS AchuthanandanThiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader, VS Achuthanandan asked the government to drop the Aadhar project as it violates the provisions of the Citizenship Act of 1955. Fingerprints and other biometric information being collected under the project is a direct violation of the provisions of the Citizenship Act of 1955 and Citizenship Rules of 2003, neither of which permits collection of biometric information of Indian citizens.

Serious concerns regarding Indian citizens right to privacy and security has risen in the state. He raised accusations that the information for the Aadhar project was being collected secretively under a scheme called ‘Sampoorna’. Mr Achuthanandan said that, in Kerala the Aadhar project was being implemented without any discussion on its legal or social implication.
