Adaminte Makan Abu enters Oscars

adaminte-makan-abuThiruvananthapuram: The national award winning film, “Adaminde Makan” has been nominated for the Oscar Academy Awards. The Oscar Nomination Committee of the Film Federation of India selected the film from 16 shortlisted films. “Adaminte Makan” Abu has been chosen for projecting human values and communal harmony, said B Lenin, Chairman of the 16 member committee. The film had bagged three National Awards for best actor, best cinematographer and best background score.

The film tells the story of a poor attar (perfume) seller, Abu (Salim Kumar) whose only remaining wish in life is the Hajj pilgrimage, which he strives hard to fulfill, and at the verge of the fulfillment, he opts out when he fears that the means is not fully legitimate. Thrissur and Kozhikode in Kerala, India were the major filming locales.

This 2011Malayalam family drama was written, directed and co-produced by first-time filmmaker Salim Ahamed, starring Salim Kumar and Zarina Wahab. Mukesh, Nedumudi Venu, Kalabhavan Mani and Suraj Venjarammoodu have also acted in the film.  Cinematography was by Madhu Ambat and edited by Vijay Shankar. The film features songs composed by Ramesh Narayan, and the score is by Isaac Thomas Kottukapally.

Last year, the Oscar Commitee had submitted Peepli Live for the category.
