Akhilesh Yadav sworn in as UP CM

akhilesh-yadav sworn in as UP CM Lucknow: SP leader Akhilesh Yadav,38, has been sworn in as the youngest Chief Minister of India’s largest state- Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh took his oath administered by Governor BL Joshi at Lamartinere college ground in Lucknow. A total of 47 ministers have sworn in, including 19 Cabinet ministers and 28 MOS, along with Akhilesh Yadav. His party gained absolute majority by winning 224 seats in the 403-member Assembly.

Mr Akhilesh Yadav’s name was proposed in a key party meet by senior leader Azam Khan, and was supported by the members of the Samajwadi Party at the legislative board meeting. Along with Mr Akhilesh senior party leaders Shivpal Singh Yadav and Mohammad Azam Khan have also taken oath. Pawan Kumar Bansal were among the other two Congress leaders who participated in the ceremony.

Even as the expectations are high the responsibility on the shoulders of the young Chief Minister is also high. The SP leader has said improving law and order situation and rooting out corruption in the state are among his top priorities. Restoration of student unions in universities and colleges will also be a challenge for him. Akhilesh will also have to take a call on constituting a commission for taking legal opinion on providing reservation to Muslims and implementing recommendations of the Ranganath Mishra Commission and the Sachar Committee.

“There are so much expectations, hopes and responsibilities, it is a test for me. My efforts are to make a small, compact cabinet with a mix of the old and experienced and fresh blood.The ministry will not be too big but I am sure, if need be, many could be sworn in later and the ministry could be expanded once the need arises,” he had told reporters before the swearing in ceremony.
