Amar Singh goes home for Diwali

amar-singhNew Delhi: The Delhi High Court granted bail to Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, who was arrested for his alleged role in the cash-for-votes scam. Amar Singh was let off on medical grounds and on two assurities of 1 crore each. The court said bail was being granted only on humanitarian grounds since the politician was ill and had sought bail on grounds of poor medical condition. The court asked Singh to furnish two sureties of Rs 50 lakh each.

the court has restrained him from leaving the country and asked him to deposit his passport with the court. Mr Singh has pleaded that he needs to visit Singapore regularly in connection with his kidney treatment. Singh has been charge sheeted for the offence under section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act read with section 120 B (conspiracy) of IPC.

The former Samajwadi party leader had moved the High Court after a city court on September 28 rejected both his interim and regular bail pleas, saying his role was “major” in the entire episode aimed at “disgracing” parliamentary democracy. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where Singh is admitted, had on October 12 submitted his medical report in the court saying that he needs constant medical monitoring.The medical report also recommended that Singh needs to be kept in a highly sanitised and hygienic environment and he should avoid crowded places and unsensitised environment to prevent getting infected.

The former Samajwadi Party general secretary was arrested on September 6 after he appeared before the trial court in response to summons for his alleged involvement in the scam.
