Amritha nurses to go on indefinite strike

amrutha-strikeKochi: Nurses at Amritha hospital, Eranakulam would resume their agitation against the hospital management from February 21, 2011. They have submitted a notice before the labour department intimating about their indefinite strike.

Nurses of Amritha Institute of Medical College began their protest against the hospital management on December 6, 2010 where they demanded wage revision and an improvement in the working conditions. The nurses and the hospital management arrived at a consensus on December 9 last year in the presence of the District Collector and MLA.

The management is being revengeful towards the nurses who participated in the agitation. UNA Amrita Unit Secretary, Jithin Lohi confirmed that the strike would begin on February 21st.

“Earlier each nurse had to handle five patients after the strike each nurses is forced to handle 12 patients. In the ICU the nurses are forced to look after 2 to 4 patients,” Jithin told doolnews. “Instead of giving experience certificate they are only providing the nurses with service certificate. The only reason most nurses work for this paltry sum is for the experience certificate. We will not be able to get jobs elsewhere with the service certificates that they are distributing,” he added.
