Angola’s Leila Lopes crowned Miss Universe

Leila LopesSao Paolo : Black beauty, Miss Angola Leila Lopes was crowned Miss Universe by Miss Mexico and Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete as she beat 88 other dazzling damsels to win the title during the 60th anniversary of the world’s biggest beauty pageant held at the Credicard Hall, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Leila Lopes smoothly handled an interview question about what physical trait she would change if she could, while wearing a strapless cream-colored gown. “Thank God I’m very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn’t change a thing. I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life,” Leila Lopes answered confidently and gracefully.

Ukraine’s Olesia Stefanko was picked first runners up while Brazil’s Priscila Machado was chosen as the second runner up. China’s Luo Zilin came in fourth and Philippine’s Shamcey Supsup was third.

The 25-year-old Lopes is Angola’s first winner. India’s hopes were thrashed even as the Indian contestant Vasuki Sunkavalli from Hyderabad, failed to make it to even the top 16. Montenegro ‘s Nikolina Lončar was awarded Miss Congeniality, Sweden’s Ronnia Fornstedt was awarded Miss Photogenic and Panama’s Sheldry Sáez was awarded Best National Costume.

In the top 10 were Australia, Costa Rica, France, Ukraine, Portugal, Panama, Philippines, Angola, China and Brazil where as France, Kosovo, Colombia, China, Angola, Australia, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Netherlands, USA, Ukraine, Panama, Costa Rica, Portugal, Philippines and Venezuela came under the top 16.
