Anoop Jacob sworn in as MLA

anoop-jacobThiruvananthapuram: Newly elected member Adv Anoop Jacob, who won the Piravom by-poll election defeating his LDF rival MJ Jacob by a huge margin of 12070 votes, was sworn in as an MLA today. Mr Anoop took the oath of office before Speaker G Karthikeyan. The UDF tally in the state assembly has gone up to 72. Sticking to its commitment of inducting Mr Jacob into the Oommen Chandy ministry, the Chief Minister has stated that the portfolio to be entrusted to Mr Annop would be decided after a discussion in the UDF.

The commitment of including Mr Anoop to the ministry was made prior to the by-election. There are certain indications that the Kerala Congress (Jacob) would get back the Food and Civil Supplies portfolio. Mr Anoop is likely to be sworn-in as Minister after March 28, depending on the convenience of Governor HR Bhardwaj, who is holding the additional charge of Kerala.

After the counting, yesterday, the UDF emerged victorious with 82757 votes. LDF leader MJ Jacob received 70686 votes. KR Rajagopal of Bharatiya Janata Party ended up a distant third with 3,241 votes.
