Army will not do anything to undermine democracy: Antony

antony-defends-armyVishakapattanam: Defence Minister, AK Antony dismissed the Indian express story. He said fears of any coup attempt by the Armed Forces were ‘absolutely baseless’ and he strongly believed that the Army will not do anything to undermine democracy.

Antony was speaking to reporters after attending the induction ceremony of INS Chakra into Indian Navy. He said that he has full faith in all three service chiefs. “Don’t question the patriotism of the Indian Army, do not question patriotism of soldiers dying for service of the nation,” Antony said. According to him the nation cannot afford the luxury of controversy over armed forces. He asked everyone to respect the honor and dignity of the armed forces.

Antony said, “Why should one create a rift between us for no reason. Enough is enough.” He said such exercises are conducted from time to time. “Army has already explained this. It is usual, natural activities. There is nothing unusual. We are absolutely confident of the patriotism of the Armed Forces. Don’t question their patriotism. I am proud of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and the Coast Guard,” he said. He also urged the media not to lower the dignity of the Armed Forces on issues of national security.
