Assembly in ruckus over PC George’s vulgar speech

Legislative Assembly Thiruvananthapuram: The Opposition party protested in the Kerala Assembly against Minister KB Ganesh Kumar and Government Chief Whip PC George in the wake of the vulgar and castist statements made by them at a public function held at Kollam.  They raised placards and slogans demanding the Speaker to throw them out of the Assembly. The LDF led Opposition also protested during the question hour session.

The CPIM opposition wanted to move an adjournment motion in connection with the controversial remark by Minister KB Ganesh Kumar and Chief Whip PC George against Opposition leader and former CM, VS Achuthanandan and CPIM MLA AK Balan. Minister Koodiyeri Balakrishnan submitted the request for adjournment motion.

In response to the adjournment the CM stated that the had not received any complaints regarding the alleged casteist remarks by Govt. Chief Whip against Balan. Calling a person a person an SC is not an offense. To strengthen his claim he mentioned the High Court verdict in the former minister EK Nayanar v/s MA Kuttapan case.

Regarding Ganesh Kumar’s statement the ruling has already made its stand clear, the CM said. GAnesh KUmar was willing to appologize for his satements before the assembly but the Opposition did not permit him to do so. After which he called a press conference and appologised before the media and the citizens for his statements, he added.

He however , condemned the statements made by Chief Whip regarding the lady Watch and Ward. Following the CM’s statements, the Speaker G Karthikeyan denied the permission to entertain the adjournment motion and the Assembly was adjourned till 11 am. The Speaker has been unable to resume the session even after 11 pm due to the protests.
