BMW ‘s new X3 version enters Indian market

BMW X3 xDrive20dChennai: German luxury car maker BMW launched its new hatchback, the second generation X3 in India in two diesel variants : BMW X3 xDrive20d and BMW X3 xDrive30d. The two litre and three-litre engine BMW X3 cars will be produced at the company’s plant in Chennai from CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits, according to a press release.

The BMW cars can now be ordered at BMW dealerships across the country.  The deliveries of the new BMW X3 xDrive20d priced at Rs 41,20,000and BMW X3 xDrive30d priced at Rs 47,90,000 will start in September and October respectively.

Dr Andreas Schaaf, President, BMW India said, “The first-generation BMW X3 was the pioneer in its segment. We are confident that the second generation BMW X3 will inherit the position of its predecessor as the benchmark and will strengthen it further. The launch of the new BMW X3 is a significant milestone in our growth strategy in India and will beyond doubt accelerate the luxurious and dynamic characteristic of the brand.’”

“The new BMW X3 is elegant like a true BMW and spacious like no other car in the segment. The enhanced agility, optimised driving comfort and innovative equipment options in the new BMW X3 are designed not just to drive but to live the road, feel every bend and master every terrain,” Schaaf added.

In the first seven months of 2011, BMW has sold 5,364 cars in India, achieving 97 per cent growth year-on-year, with the X1 proving to be the most important pillar of growth, Dr Schaaf said. “The premium segment in India is very stable, August (sales) will be better than July,” he said and added that the company expected to close the year with total sales at 10,000 units. BMW Plant Chennai has introduced a second shift and increased its production capacity to 11,000 units a year.
