CBI enquiry into Kasargod firing

High-courtKasargod: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will conduct a probe into the police firing which took place in Kasargod on November 15, 2009.The decision came soon after the state government withdrew its petition challenging the High Court single bench’s order directing a CBI probe into the case. The Court also granted permission to withdraw the petition.

In the 2009 police firing, Muslim Youth League member Muhammed Shafeeq was reportedly killed by the bullet of the then Kasargod SP Ramdas Pothen. Shafeeq’s father had submitted a petition before the single bench demanding CBI enquiry into his son’s murder. In the petition he stated that the crime branch enquiry is not satisfactory. Single bench had then ordered for a CBI enquiry. The former LDF government however had submitted a petition against the single bench decision. The UDF government approached the court requesting the withdrawal of the petition filed by the LDF government.

The court finally withdrew the LDF petition and ordered CBI enquiry into the case. Ramdas Pothen is said to have fired without any provocation and it is believed that there is a conspiracy behind the entire incident.
