CPI leader CK Chandrappan passes away

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran CPI leader CK Chandrappan (75) passed away at Thiruvananthapuram KIMS hospital. He was suffering from bone cancer and was undergoing treatment for the same. He was admitted at the hospital on Monday when his condition worsened. Mr Chandrappan was shifted to the intensive care unit on Wednesday night after his condition deteriorated, sources said.

Veteran CPI leader CK Chandrappan who has taken a tough stand against the CPIM has been unanimously re-elected as the secretary of the Kerala CPI at the end of the State conference of the party on February 11, 2012. he was also actively involved in the Piravom by election campaign.

Mr Chandrappan was a member of the Lok Sabha representing the Telicherry constituency in 1971 and  Kannur constituency from 1977 to 1980 and from 2004 to 2010. Chandrappan served as Member of the Legislative Assembly of Kerala from 1991 to 1996 representing the Chertala Assembly Constituency.

His father, C.K. Kumara Panikker, was a famous leader of CPI and was known as Vayalar Stalin. C K Chandrappan, the former CPI MP from Tellichery , was adjudged the top performer by the National Social Watch, an NGO.  However he could not be re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha. C K Chandrappan was the national president of KISAN SABHA.
