Delhi metro to shut down Kochi office

metroKochi: The Delhi Metro Rail corporation has withdrawn from the basic facility development scheme of the Kochi metro rail project. After completion of pending work the DMRC shall shut down its Kochi branch office. The orders for the same have been given from the DMRC Kochi office. Kochi Metro project director P Sreeram informed about the changes to the media. DMRC sated that they were woithdrawing from the project as no new work was handed over to them. They have also decided to withdraw from the development of MG Road and Banerjee road.

Kochi metro rail limited has asked the DMRC to remain only as a consultant to the project. KMRL send a letter to Delhi metro stating that they seek the latter’s service only as  consultant and that KMRL would believed it would be able to complete the metro project on its own. DMRC in its response pointed out that they had no interest in continuing only as a consultant to the Kochi metro rail project.

If DMRC alienates itself from the project the Kochi metro rail will not be completed in time. A single day delay would result in more than 30 lakh loss. If KMRL is to complete the project on its own it would take 8 years for completion. If DMRC estranges itself from KMRL it shall create a huge loss for the state government.
