‘Dirty picture is not dirty afterall’

vidya-balan-in-dirty-picturMumbai: Vidya Balan, who essays the role of yesteryear South Indian sex symbol Silk Smitha in ‘The Dirty Picture’, says the movie is not vulgar and sleazy. The actor who has turned into a skimpily dressed seductress in the film also thinks that she was just playing a role and tagging her as ‘a porn star’ would be unfair.

The promotional stills of the film showing Vidya flaunting her curves in tiny blouses have taken the fans by surprise. ‘I think I am an actor playing a character Silk Smitha. I don’t think there is a possibility of that tag being attached to me. I just hope it adds another shade to me as an actor,’ Vidya says.

Directed by Milan Luthria, ‘The Dirty Picture’ is a biopic based on the southern seductress Vijaylakshmi, better known as Silk Smitha. ‘The movie is not vulgar and sleazy. Though some might feel little hesitant or difficult to digest the movie but I am sure as a woman one might agree,’ Vidya says.

The film shows the journey of the southern siren to stardom followed by her sudden demise at a young age. ‘I think I have never enjoyed playing a woman in films…except this. In this film there are several shades of a woman,’ she adds.
