‘Don’t disturb when I am with Kanimozhi’

kannimozhiChennai: Giving a new twist to the 2G scam trial, A Raja’s former aide Aseervartham Achary on Tuesday told the special CBI court that whenever the former telecom minister used to visit Chennai based Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi at her South Avenue residence, he told them that he need not to be disturbed.

However, Achary told CBI Special Judge OP Saini that he had never visited Kanimozhi’s residence. The statement by Achary created a flutter in the court and giving it a second thought Achary added, “Raja himself told me that he was visiting the house of Kanimozhi and need not be disturbed.”

During his cross-examination by the counsel for former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura, Achary said Raja used to visit the houses of his senior leaders both in Chennai and Delhi, including M Karunanidhi. Over his association with corporate lobbyist Niira Radia, Achary said, “I started knowing her when I was in the ministry of environment and forests, somewhere between 2004 and 2007. I cannot say if she visited the Raja’s office in my presence five times, fifty times, hundred times or thousand times. I do not know as to what for she used to visit Raja in the ministry. I have no idea if she used to come in this ministry for pursuing the projects of Tatas, including mines.”

Achary also rejected the defence counsel’s claim that he was being tutored by the CBI to make such statements in the court or before the magistrate while recording of his statement.
