Dr Asheel removed from post of Nodal Officer

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government ordered the removal of Dr Muhammed Asheel from the post of Assistant Nodal Officer for strongly protesting against the use of  Endosulfan at the Stockholm convention. The order comes at a time, when a medical camp has been organized for endosulfan victims under the leadership of Dr Asheel at Kasargode next week.

Dr Asheel’s appointment as Endosulfan Remedial Assistant Nodal Officer by the VS Achuthanandan government, was strongly opposed by the Congress opposition. Dr Asheel arrived at the conclusion that the health hazards caused in Kasargode was a direct effect of the use of Endosulfan, based on his analysis of 200 reports published on the effect of Endosulfan. He also supported the DYFI case against Endosulfan.

Oommen Chandy had written an article against Dr Asheel who was the independent representative at the Stockholm convention, while he was the opposition leader.

Though the UDF government wanted to remove Dr Asheel from the post in May, they delayed the order as they feared strong protests from Kasargode.
