EC rejects ‘Right to Recall’

right-to-recallNew Delhi: Election Commission has rejected Team Anna’s demand to introduce an amendment to to introduce the ‘right to recall’ on grounds that it would create instability and hamper developmental activities. Chief election Commission informed Team Anna that those who lose an election would start propaganda and campaign to recall the representative from day one.

If frequent elections occur and if there is repeated imposition of the Model Code of Conduct it will hamper development activities, EC said. Team Anna had asked EC to consider the introduction of ‘Right to Recall’ to withdraw non performing elected representatives through referendum.
