Extra rice and sugar for Xmas

sugarNew Delhi: Kerala government has given a Christmas gift to its people.  After a meeting the Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister KV Thomas and State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Shibu Baby John arrived at the consensus of allotting more rice and sugar for the state during the festive season.

The state is being allotted 4130 tons of sugar a month. During the previous Onam season an extra 3600 tones were allotted. Special allowance is being given due to the request from the state as Kerala sought for an additional 7000 tones.

Permission would be granted to convert the wheat allotted for APL and BPL to atta and supply through rations shops and Supplyco. 5000 tons would be converted as atta. More wheat would be allotted for Kerala as per open market sales scheme. The Centre would give aid to computerize the whole public distribution chain.
