FIR filed against SM Krishna

SM Krishna Bangalore: The Lokayukta police registered an FIR against External Affairs Minister SM Krishna, Congress MP Dharam Singh and Janata Dal (Secular) MP HD Kumaraswamy in the illegal mining case. The FIR has been filed in relation to private complaint filed against them by one TJ Abraham in the Karnataka Lokayukta court. Judge N K Sudhindra Rao directed Lokayukta additional director general of police (ADGP) H N Satyanarayana Rao to initiate a probe under section 156(3) of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc) and submit the report by January 6.

The court’s direction to the police came on a private complaint filed by a Bangalore businessman who alleged that Krishna, Singh and Kumaraswamy had allowed large scale illegal mining when they were chief minister of the state.The complainant submitted copies of the documents, obtained under RTI, related to investments made by a son-in-law of Krishna. On Friday, the court sought clarifications from the complainant.

The offences have been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Forest Conservation Act, Karnataka Forest Act, Mines and Minerals Regulation Act, Indian Penal Code Sections 204, 405, 406, 463, 465, 468, 471 and 423.

Krishna headed the then Congress government in Karnataka between 1999 and 2004 while Dharam Singh was the chief minister of the Congress-JD(S) coalition government during 2004-06. Kumaraswamy succeeded Singh in 2006 heading the JD(S)-BJP government.
