Govt to hold all party meeting tomorrow

Anna HazareNew Delhi: The Government has convened an all-party meeting tomorrow to find a way to solve the standoff with Team Anna over the Lokpal Bill. Leaders of all political parties have been invited to attend the meet which is scheduled for 3.30 pm tomorrow. The government finally consented for an all party meet as it realised that some of the demands put forth by Mr Hazare and his associates require a wider political consensus before a decision could be taken.

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, also held a detailed meeting with the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee, Mr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, to look into the various aspects of the Lokpal Bill and to discuss various possibilities to end the impasse over the issue even as MrHazare’s fast entered the eighth day today.

Mr Singhvi said, “the differences between the Government and Mr Hazare on Lokpal Bill were more to do with methodology rather than content.” He also said that the Committee on Law and Justice and Personnel was open to all kinds of opinions and inputs to send a strong and acceptable Lokpal Bill back to Parliament.

Congress member Mr Praveen Singh Aron has already submitted a copy of Mr Hazare’s Jan Lokpal Bill for the consideration of the committee.
