Ice Cream Parlor Case: VS Achuthanandan Filed Additional Affidavit in Supreme Court

VS Achuthanandan

New Delhi: Kerala opposition leader VS Achuthanandan on Tuesday filed an additional affidavit over the controversial Ice Cream Parlor Case in which Minister for Industries and Information Technology P.K. Kunhalikutty is one among the accused.

Achuthanandan alleged in the affidavit submitted in the Supreme Court today that the Special Investigation Team had shared its report before they were filed in a sealed envelope in the court. This in effect made the filing of police report in a sealed cover a farcical act.

DGP Jacob Punnoose had earlier intervened in the investigation of this case. The presence of Jacob Punnoose, then IG, North Zone, in the meetings must be seen as contempt of court. It is a serious offence that the SIT held discussions and shared information with the Advocate-General, says the affidavit which was filed after obtaining a special permission from the Division Bench headed by Justice Ranjana Desai.

According to Achuthanandan, on 2011 December 19 and 2012 January 28, the SIT investigating team held discussions and shared information with the Advocate-General. Since both these meetings happened before the filing of the findings of the investigation before the court in a sealed cover, it was a serious violation of justice. All of this points to a conspiration that helped Kunhalikutty and his co-accused, he alleges.
