Idukki dam can avert danger: Government officials

MullapperiyaIdukki: Mullaperiyar expert committee officials who have studied the dams safety approved and strengthened the stand taken by the Advocate General. According to the expert Committee if the Mullaperiyar dam breaks down due to natural causes as feared by many the water can be contained by the Idukki dam. The views of the expert committee was expressed before the High Court by Mullaperiyar cell chairman M K Parameshwaran.

Mr Parameshwaran assured the High Court that in the given situation the Idukki dam has the capacity and strength to contain the water of Mullaperiyar dam. Earlier AG Dandapani had stated the same thing before the High Court. Kerala Government believes that such statements would only weaken Kerala’s demand for a new dam.
