India awaits Gambirs fitness report

GambhirEngland: Doctors are yet to provide the fitness report of Indias opening batsman Gautam Gambir who underwent an MRI scan in London. The team is waiting with bated breath as Gambir is critical to Indias plans in the limited overs series against England starting with a one-off Twenty20 match on August 31.

India opener Virender Sehwag and fast bowler Ishant Sharma have been ruled out of the One-day series against England.

Gambhir suffered from concussions after he backpedalled at mid-on in an attempt to catch a miscued pull off Kevin Pietersen. The chance was fluffed when Gambhir fell back and hit his head on the ground with a thud.Gautam Gambhir was then rushed to a local hospital for a pre-cautionary medical check-up for mild concussion.

Misfortune has befalled Gambir through out the current series. As a result of a painfull hit on his right  elbow while fielding at forward short leg during the first Test at Lord’s last month he had to miss the second Test at Trent Bridge. He did play the third Test at Edgbaston and scored 38 and 14 in the two innings.

However Bad luck again bedeviled him in the final Test where he scored 10 and 3 coming low down the order. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was said later that the opener was suffering from blurred vision.

Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane and Jharkhand speedster Varun Aaron will replace them for the one-off Twenty20 Aug 31 and five ODIs beginning Sep 3.
