Indian Express report is “absolutely stupid”:Gen VK Singh

VK-SinghKathmandu: Army chief Gen VK Singh dismissed the Indian Express report as “absolutely stupid”. He said unnecessary attempts were being made to “throw muck” at the government and the army and that they need to be taken to task. “Whosoever is trying to make stories against the army chief is deplorable. And what it shows is that people are unnecessarily trying to throw muck at both the government and the army and such people should be taken to task,” he said.

The Army chief who is in Nepal attending a three-day Regional seminar on Natural Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance was commenting on the Indian Express report that said the government was “spooked” on the night of January 16-17 because of the movement of a mechanized infantry battalion from Haryana’s Hisar and a sizeable section of 50 Para Brigade.

The Indian Army also rubbished the report saying the movement of Army troops was routine with Defence Minister AK Antony calling it as ‘totally baseless’. “There is nothing unusual in such movement of Army troops. The Army has explained this. We are confident about the patriotism of the Armed forces,” Antony said. “Indian armed forces will do nothing to undermine democracy,” he added.
