Indian muslims celebrate Eid today

Eid mubarakKozhikode: After 30 days fasting Islam believers celebrates Eid today. feasts and festiviteies were kicked off  after the moon was sighted on tuesday evening. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of holy Ramadan. Across India on Tuesday Eid prayers were being offered at mosques.

The President, the Vice-President and the Prime Minister today greeted the people on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr.”On the auspicious occasion of Id-ul-Fitr, it is my immense pleasure in offering Id Mubarak to all our people in India and abroad,” President Pratibha Patil said in a message. “May this festival strengthen mutual goodwill and inspire each one of us to follow the path of love, friendship and harmony,” she said.

In his message, Vice-President Hamid Ansari said “I offer my heartiest greetings and good wishes to the people of our country on the joyous occasion of Id-ul-Fitr which marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan.”

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said “the festival of Eid highlights the spirit of sacrifice and the joy of sharing. The celebrations marking the end of the Ramzan fasting foster peace and harmony and reflect the true spirit of our composite culture.May the festival spread peace, tolerance and harmony among all.”

Congress President Sonia Gandhi also conveyed her greetings and good wishes to the people on the occasion.

US President Barack Obama also greeted Muslims across the globe on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.”Michelle and I would like to send Eid greetings to Muslim communities in the US and around the world. Ramadan has been a time for families and communities to share the happiness of coming together in intense devotion, reflection, and service,” Obama said in his special Eid message.

Referring to the popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa said that his country would continue to stand by all those people in their efforts to secure basic necessities and fundamental freedoms.
