India’s Nargis, one of the worlds 7 billion babies

babiesNew Delhi: India and the Philippines welcomed “symbolic” seventh-billionth babies. A baby girl, born to 23-year-old Vinita and Ajay at a local community health centre at 7.20 a.m. here on the outskirts of Lucknow, was welcomed as the seventh-billionth baby, Bhagyeshwari, Executive Director of NGO Plan India, which is conducting the exercise, said. The girl has been named Nargis, she said.

Countries around the world are marking the world’s population reaching a record 7 billion by holding lavish ceremonies for newborn infants symbolizing the milestone. The Philippines was already celebrating the birth of baby Danica May Camacho. While demographers are unsure exactly when the world’s population will reach the seven billion mark, the U.N. is using Monday to symbolically mark the day.

A series of symbolic 7-billionth babies are being honoured in various countries.
