Inflation to be topic for the day at Lok Sabha

lok-sabhaNew Delhi: The tentative plan for the second day of the winter session is to discuss price rise today in Parliament even as both the BJP and the Left have rejected the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s statement on inflation.  Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal also informed the media that the Lower House would take up the discussion on the statement of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the price situation.

CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said, “We are ready to discuss price rise and the situation of the Indian economy.”  “This government is not prepared to recognize inflation as a problem of national economy,” senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said.

The left had demanded for a censure vote. However , the government’s chief trouble-shooter, Pranab Mukherjee, has managed to buy peace with the Left, persuading them to agree to a discussion without a vote. This means the BJP too is unlikely to demand a vote, as it had an understanding with the Left that it will back its stand on prices while the Left will support its stand on black money. The BJP is however all set to move an adjournment motion on black money tomorrow under a rule that entails voting. The BJP has said it does not want a logjam but its opposition to Mr Chidambaram remains.
