Italian ambassador to Iran recalled

iran Rome: Italian ambassador to Iran has been recalled for consultations in connection with the assault on the British Embassy in Tehran earlier in the week. Italian authorities are contemplating possible closing of their diplomatic mission in Tehran, Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi said.

“We have decided to recall the ambassador for consultations,” Terzi told reporters. Earlier it was reported that the Iranian ambassador in Rome was summoned to the Foreign Ministry to express “deep regret” in connection with the assault on the British Embassy in Tehran.

On November 29 about 150 people, angered by sanctions imposed on Tehran by London, broke into two buildings of the British embassy compound in Tehran, prompting the British government to evacuate all its staff. Terzi had said that Italy may close its embassy and would be seeking Iranian guarantees for the safety of Italian diplomats.
