IUML against arrest under spreading communal disharmony

IUMLKozhikode: The IUML leaders of Kozhikode have protested against the police for registering cases under section 153 (a) against the accused in the Nadapuram violence case. The leaders have decided to meet the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to express their indignation against the police action.

The police have registered cases under section 153 (A)  (spreading of enmity between communities)  against the accused in the Nadapuram CPM-IUMl clash that occured at Valayam near Nadapuram. “Of late, the police are deliberately giving a communal colour to the political clashes at Nadapuram by registering cases under Section 153 (A), which is not intended for the state. The police are evoking a communal feeling among the people who hardly have any communal feelings. We don’t want Nadapuram to be labelled as communally sensitive just like certain regions in North India,” said IUML Nadapuram Constituency Committee president, Ahammed Punnakal.

“Even if there exists a communal colour, the authorities should play down the issue. Otherwise, people will start thinking on religious lines instead of political lines,” he added. CPM Committee secretary Balan master however, stated that they are not against charging Section 153 (A) as long as the police ensures no innocent man is punished. ” The police is not doing enough to curb the violence in this region. They are merely arresting equal number of people from both the parties irrespective of the fact that they are real culprits or not,” he added.

The police have claimed that they were merely following orders and their actions are based on Central Government direction that every communal situation should be treated as communal even before it gets compounded.
