Jaitapur Nuclear plant protest postponed

jaitapurNew Delhi: The protest against the proposed 9900 MW Jaitapur Nuclear power plant that was to be held today and tomorrow in and around the JNPP site area have been postponed till February 7, in the wake of the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections. The jail bharo movement had to be cancelled as it would lead to a breach of the election code of conduct.

The protestors had planned to organize a jail bharo agitation and would have remained in jail until the construction work at the project site was ceased completely. It had also planned to boycott the official flag-hoisting ceremony at all gram panchayats. However, we will go ahead with our plan to hold a seminar against nuclear power in Sakhri-Natye village,” Pravin Gavankar of Janhit Sewa Samiti, a local body representing the villagers said.
