Janardhan Reddy’s bail plea rejected

janardhana-reddyBangalore: The Bangalore special CBI court rejected the bail petitions of former Karnataka minister and mining baron Janardhan Reddy and his brother-in-law B Srinivas Reddy in the illegal mining case. Both have been taken into CBI custody till September 19, 2011.

Judge B Naga Maruthi Sarma directed the Chanchalguda Jail authorities to hand over Janardhana Reddy and Srinivas Reddy to the CBI immediately for further questioning.

Their custodial interrogation is being considered crucial as they have personal knowledge of illegal mining of iron ore in mining area across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. They are also capable of letting out information regarding Government officials who are involved in the case.

Former Karnataka Minister and mining baron, G Janardhan Reddy and Managing Director of Obalapuram Mining Company and brother-in-law of the former minister, B V Srinivas Reddy had been arrested by the CBI today at 6 am on September 5, 2011. During the raids , the investigators recovered Rs. 3 crore cash and 30 kg gold from Janardhana Reddy’s house and Rs. 1.5 crore cash from Srinivas Reddy’s house.

A 10-member CBI team led by its DIG, P V Lakshminarayana had raided the house of Janardhana Reddy in Bellary and Srinivas Reddy’s house in Bangalore. Reddy, who was the Tourism and Infrastructure Development Minister in the previous B S Yeddyurappa government, was among those indicted by the Lokayukta report on illegal mining submitted to the Government on July 27. About 65 mining companies including OMC are under the CBI scanner.
