Jaya cracks the whip

jayalalithaaChennai: Ahead of the much-awaited general council meeting of the AIADMK, party leader and chief minister J Jayalalithaa removed organizing secretary Dhalavai Sundaram from the party post. Dhalavai Sundaram’s removal from the party post would join the long list of organizational changes made in the party for the last two weeks.

Sources in the party say Sundaram was close to Sasikala’s relative T. T. V. Dinakaran and hence the removal. Also, there were reportedly complaints against him from Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli party units.“The general council meeting on December 30 at Vanagaram will be very crucial considering that it would probably be the first meeting without Sasikala” says a party leader on condition of anonymity.

Sasikala and her 13 other relatives were expelled on December 19, sending shock waves across the party. Party cadres across the state celebrated the expulsion by distributing sweets and bursting crackers. At the general council meeting on December 30, party cadres hope the chief minister will make more pronounced the decision against the Sasikala camp.

“The question of a possible patch-up lingers in a lot of minds. We hope our leader will remove all the doubts by reiterating her decision,” says a party cadre. The Sasikala camp hopes the meeting will be reflective of the mood of the high command two weeks after the unexpected action against it.

Sources say while a section of Sasikala camp is deeply upset over the recent happenings, another section hopes to patch up with the chief minister and is waiting for the ‘opportune’ moment. Some sources say the meeting could even be usual, indicating the normalcy and yet again an acceptance of undisputed leadership of Ms Jayalalithaa.
