Mumbai based journalist Jigna Vora has been arrested in connection with the murder of Mid Day reporter J Dey for allegedly aiding and abetting the crime. Vora, who is employed with an English daily, is accused of being a part of the conspiracy to kill Dey.

The journalist has been arrested for allegedly giving details like Mr Dey’s motorcycle registration number and his address to fugitive underworld don Chhota Rajan, who has been accused of masterminding the murder. The arrest has been made under provisions of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The Crime Branch has in its possession telephone conversation purportedly between Chhota Rajan and some others claiming that the journalist had provided information, police sources said.

The Crime Branch claims that they have other incriminating call records which go against the journalist who has been arrested. Police had recorded the journalist’s statement twice in the past. Jigna Vora will be tried for murder and conspiracy like the other accused in the case and will be presented before the special MCOCA court today, the police said.

Dey was shot dead outside his house at Powai in Mumbai on June 11, 2011 by four motorcycle-borne assailants in suburban Powai.
