Karachi suicide attack, 8 killed

Karachi sucuide attackKarachi: Eight people, including six policemen, were killed and several injured in a suicide bomb blast that occurred in Karachi today morning. A Taliban suicide bomber drove a car packed with explosives into the home of Senior Superintendent of Police, Chaudhry Aslam at Karachi.

Six police officers were guarding the home of Karachi’s senior superintendent of police which is in the defense area. The police officer and his family survived the attack. A woman and a child were amongst those who had also been killed in the blast, said police official Naeem Shaikh.

Police said 300kg (136lb) of explosives had been used. The Superintendent who condemned the attack said that he had been receiving threats from Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. “I was sleeping when they carried out this cowardly act and rammed a vehicle packed with explosives into my house. I will not be cowed. I will teach a lesson to generations of militants,” said Aslam. Terrorists who attack innocent people are not Muslims, he added.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, a Taliban spokesman claiming responsibility for the attack said that the attack was revenge against Aslam who had arrested and killed many of its fighters. “We will attack other police officials as well who are taking action against our people,” he added. He even mentioned the names of five Karachi police officials on the Taliban hit list.
