M Karunanidhi on cloud nine

chennai opposition CMChennai: The State government should consult academics and schoolteachers for making up the lost time while implementing Samacheer Kalvi as ordered by the Supreme Court, said M. Karunanidhi, president, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), on August 9. In an interaction with reporters,  Karunanidhi asked if Chief Minister Jayalalithaa would give up her ‘adamant attitude’ after the Supreme Court order to implement Samacheer Kalvi immediately, and said that he expected her to change.

Terming it a victory in one of the many battles of the DMK in its fight for social justice, he said that it was also a victory for the commoners, students and Tamils in general. On  Jayalalithaa’s speech in the Assembly on August 8, that she would abide by the Supreme Court order on Samacheer Kalvi, he said that it was the responsibility of the media to monitor its implementation.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan urged the government to take immediate steps for its implementation.MDMK general secretary Vaiko said that the judgment to implement Samacheer Kalvi this year itself had protected the educational rights and future of 1.22 crore students.
