Kerala: “1st total banking state” in India

Total financial inclusion Thiruvananthapuram: There is no household in Kerala that does not have a bank account. Kerala is the only state in India where at least one member in each household in 14 districts has atleast one bank account. It is also the only state where banking facilities are made available within the reach of people everywhere. The drive for total financial inclusion in the state was led by SLBC convenor, Canara Bank.

The total financial exclusion has become a reality in Kerala due to the concentrated efforts of the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) for the past for years. After the total inclusion campaign became a hit in Palakkad the SLBC had decided to implement it on a state level. Even as the state adds yet another feather to its cap the Chief Minister stated that the banks need to shed its conservative approach and must contribute much more to expedite the development process in the state.
