ruckus in legislatureThiruvananthapuram: The opposition parties staged a walk out after the speaker refused to consent to their demand for an adjournment motion to discuss the alleged telephone conversation between jailed Balakrishnan Pillai and the Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s private secretary.  The speaker was forced to adjourn the assembly.

Opposition deputy leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan submitted the notice for adjournment motion. The former minister Balakrishnan Pillai who is serving one year term in prison for his involvement in the Idamalayar case is said to have called Ommen Chandy’s private secretary according to several media reports. The speaker denied the motion quoting rule 52.

“As per rule 52, since the Pillai phone call issue was discussed yesterday the matter could not be taken up in the assembly for discussion today,” said the speaker. However, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan pointed out that the matter could be raised for discussion as per rule 52(4).
