King maker enters planning board

Tharun DasTrivandrum: Controversy has sparked, with the appointment of Tarun Das,  former director of Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII) and Coco Cola international adviser,  as a non – official member in the newly re-constituted State Planning Board in Kerala, here today.

The  role played by Tarun Das as a middle man, in pressuring the government to appoint A raja as Telecom Minister and in appointing Kamal Nath as Surface Transport Minister, made exceedingly clear through the Nira Radia tapes was the cause of the controversy.In the Nira Radia tapes which were made public, the role of  Tarun Das as the king maker was made clear in his conversations with the controversial cooperate lobbyist, Nira Radia.

The Cabinet on Wednesday reconstituted the Planning Board by including three non-official members. The newly-inducted members, besides Tarun Das are Delhi Metro chief, E Sreedharan and Technopark former CEO, Vijayaraghavan.

Mr Oomen Chandy, Mr K M Mani, Mr P K Kunjalikutty, Mr Joseph, Mr K P Mohanan and MrAryada Mohammed are the ministers in the board. K M Chandrashekar would be Vice Chairman of the board.

No decision has been arrived at regarding the two vacant posts. Names recommended for the posts are CMP C P John, Socialist Janatha D R Varghese George, Shafi Methar and DR B A Prakash. J S S has also demanded  membership in the board.
