KFC dumps waste on road side, license to be cancelled

Kentucky Fried Chicken, KFC Kozhikode: The Kozhikode (Calicut) Corporation has taken firm actions to cancel the license of the brand new branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken that was inaugurated 2 weeks back near Mavoor Road, Kozhikode (Calicut). The much sought after KFC began functioning without any proper waste disposal mechanism or commitment towards the community.

The callous restaurant that caters mainly to the middle class and upper class sections of the society, threw sacks full of kitchen waste and plastic on the road side at various places scattered all over Kozhikode between West Hill and Kakkodi. The infuriated locals who could not stand the stench gathered the waste and dumped it at the restaurants door step shouting slogans against KFC.

Even as the situation began slipping out of control, the Kozhikode (Calicut) Coorporation demanded a show cause notice as to why it should restrain from cancelling the restaurants notice.

Proactive locals with a civic sense, DYFI members and counsellors who were the first to recognize the offense gathered the waste in a tipper lorry and dumped it in front of KFC.The incident occurred on Wednesday morning and though the Vyapari Vyavasaya Ekopana Samithi (merchants association) tried to make peace between the two parties they had to return unsuccessful.

Even as the state is reeling under the pressure of various diseases such as leptospirosis and dengu which has been found to be more prominent in Kozhikode, the restaurant’s impassive, insensitive and indifferent attitude is beyond fathom of the common man. Such profit mongers hopefully will be penalized for their wrong doings.
