Kozhikode firing: DGP report justifies ACP

Kozhikode firingKozhikode: Director-General of Police (DGP) Jacob Punnoose today stated that the investigation report justifies the Kozhikode police firing. According to him the police was forced to open fire in order to bring the situation in control and to prevent any further violence. In a report handed over to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, DGP informed that the ACP had used his service revolver as per the rules. The protest in Kozhikode had created a situation that warranted police firing, the report said.

As per the report 37 police personals were injured by the the protesting SFI activists. There was no facilities to take the police to the hospital. The ACP Radhakrishna Pillai had opened fire in order to take the situation under control. However, it yet has to be verified whether the police officer was using the revolver in accordance to the police manual.

The police department has not initiated any kind of action against the ACP who opened fire on protesting SFI activists at Kozhikode Government Engineering College.The SFI activists were staging protest march to oust Nirmal Madhav, who was given admission in the West Hill college breaching all norms. Meanwhile Oommen Chandy today informed the Assembly that Additional chief secretary K Jayakumar has been appointed to probe into the incident. The CPM led LDF opposition members on Wednesday demanded a judicial probe into the incident and have also sought action against the police officer.
