Krishna Menon sets up “poetree” – a creative space

Kannur: The Media Club, a joint venture of the departments of Journalism and English of Krishna Menon Memorial Govt. Women’s College has set up a unique “space” for campus creativity: Poetree. Under this programme, a tree in the campus has been baptized as Poetree and poems, stories and other literary works of students from colleges all over India will be hung from this tree. The entries will be changed weekly.The programme was inaugurated by renowned Malayalam poet Mr Veerankutty today at at 3 pm.

‘Kannurinte Naadan Kathappathayaam, an anthology of folktales from Kannur, also released on this occasion. Mr. Manojkumar Koyyam, editor of Plavila little magazine, received the copy.

The programme has attained great popularity and entries from a number of campuses – JNU, St.Stephen’s College New Delhi, Shanti Niketan Kolkata, Hyderabad Central University, Madras University, Maharaja’s College Ernakulam, Kanhangad Nehru College, BCM College Kottayam, Farook College, SN College Varkala, Mary Matha College Mananthavadi, University College Thiruvananthapuram, People’s Arts College Kasargod, Devagiri Calicut, Kerala University, Mary Matha College Alakkode, Calicut University, Kannur University Campus Palayad, Mahi Govt. College, Payyannur College, SN College Kannur, Govt. Brennan College Thalassery and the like have been received.

Dr KV Surendran, Principal, Krishna Menon Memorial Govt. Women’s College, Dr.EV Fathima, Prof N Rajani and V H Nishad also spoke on the occasion.
