Lokayukta files FIR against Yeddyurappa and kin

karnataka chief ministerBangalore: The former Chief Minister B S yeddurappa face yet another st back as the lokayukta police filed a First Information Report(FIR) against him and his kin in connection with their involvement in illegal mining scam. Lokayukta Superintendent of police Eshwarchandra Vidyasagar, who is the investigating officer, stated that the FIR has been filed under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Mr. Yeddyurappa, his sons B.Y. Raghavendra and B.Y. Vijayendra, and son-in-law R.N. Sohan Kumar.

This is the first FIR filed in connection with the illegal mining scam after former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde submitted his illigal mining report to the Lokayukta police last month and directed them to take “necessary legal action”. Yeddyurappa, his two sons and son-in-law are charged with making Rs 30 crore from firms involved in illegal mining.

The Lokayukta had indicted Mr. Yeddyurappa and his kin in the report, stating that Prerana Trust run by Mr. Yeddyurappa’s family members had received Rs. 10 crore as donation from South West Mining Company, a subsidiary of Jindal Steel Works. It had also accused Davalagiri Properties, a firm run by Mr. Yeddyurappa’s family, of selling one acre of land at Rachanahalli in Bangalore for Rs. 20 crore, which is about twenty times the guidance value of the land, to South West Mining.

Yeddyurappa, who was forced to step down as the CM for his alleged involvement in the illegal mining scam, also faces allegations in a series of land scams. This is the second FIR slapped on him. Only 10 days back,the Lokayukta City unit, following a court order, had filed an FIR against him for irregularities in the Upper Bhadra irrigation project.

The FIR has been registered under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code and  is the first step for the police to begin investigation into the complaint.Governor H R Bharadwaj, after accepting Hegde’s report, had directed newly-appointed Lokayukta Shivraj Patil to investigate charges against Yeddyurappa and family.

Mr. Yeddyurappa has already sought anticipatory bail apprehending his arrest by the Lokayukta police.
