Lokpal debate today, no voting to be held

pranab mukherjee New Delhi: Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee will make a statement and initiate a debate on issues relating to Lokpal in Lokh Sabha, followed by a discussion on civil society initiatives including the Team Anna Jan Lokpal bill today at 11am.

The record of the proceedings along with the documents on Team Anna would be referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee that is examining the Jan Lokpal bill. The key issues raised by Team Anna is expected to come up in the introductory speech of Mr Pranab Mukherjee.

Light has finally emerged at the end of the tunnel even as the  BJP and the congress reached a consensus over the issue of voting on the bill. Though the BJP insisted of voting a consensus has reached on a no voting session in parliament. The government has made it clear that though there would be discussion there would be no voting at end as it would follow rule 193 in the Lok Sabha.

Anna Hazare in his letter to the Prime Minister Mr Manmohan Singh said that he hopes the government would consider three of his suggestions related to bringing the lower bureaucracy within the ambit of the lok pal, introducing parallel Lokayuktas in state levels, and a citizen charter for time bound disposal of public grievances.

Mr Hazare said,'”my inner conscious tells me that if there is consensus on these proposals, then i may break my fast.”
