Lokpal maybe tabled on Tuesday

sonia-and-manmohan-singhNew Delhi: The UPA government has hinted of a probability of reintroducing the Lokpal bill in the Parliament next week. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said that the government has intentions of bringing the Bill for consideration in this session itself.  The winter session of Parliament is to conclude on December 22. Hence the Bill could be tabled in parliament on December 20.

After the Prime Minister returns from Russia, the the Union cabinet is likely to meet, either on  December 18 or 19 and would probably take a decision regarding the passage of the Lokpal Bill, based on the inputs given by the Parliamentary Standing Committee and all party meeting held on Wednesday.

Meanwhile there are divergent views among the political parties regarding the nature of jurisdiction of the Lokpal over the inclusion of Grade C and D employees, CBI and Central Vigilance Commission within the ambit of the Lokpal. The UPA leaders have not yet disclosed their proposed plan of action as to how the government would go about reconciling the differences.

Anna Hazare on the other hand has threatened to go on a hunger fast and initiate a jail baro movement from January 1, 2012 onwards incase the government fails to pass the Bill in the current Winter session. All political parties have asserted that they are keen on passing the bill in this session itself and their earnestness has nothing to do with the renewed threats of a second agitation from Anna Hazare.
