Madras HC accepts petitions of Rajiv assassins

madrass high courtChennai: Madrass High Court accepted the petition of the three assassins of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination, who were sentenced to death. The three assassins, Murugan, Santhan and Perarivalan have been asked to appear before the court for hearing tomorrow.

Advocate Chandrashekharan filed a petitions on behalf of the three convicts on grounds of executive delay of over 11 years before rejecting the mercy plea of the prisoners. Appearing before Justice Paul Vasanthakumar today, Chandrasekharan said, “the petition should be considered as urgent matter and hearing should be ordered immediately.”

In the petition filed on behalf of Perarivalan, he said,’my mercy petition was rejected after almost eleven years by the President. While setting aside the mercy pleas, the amount of time I spent already in prison  was not considered. I am languishing in an individual cell for over 20 years, which is almost equivalent to a life imprisonment’.

Accepting the plea, the Judge ordered for a hearing tomorrow. Advocates Ram Jethmalani and Mohit Choudhary are expected to appear for the convicts.
