Malegaon blast:NIA will not oppose bail plea

malegaon-blastNew Delhi: Nine Muslim men who were arrested and jailed in connection with the Malegaon blasts in 2006 would appear before court with the request for bail. The National Investigation Agency will not oppose their bail pleas as they have finally internally confirmed and concluded that these men are innocent.

Five years ago these nine men were accused of carrying out the twin blasts as part of a plot by the outlawed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Thirty one people were killed and 312 were injured in the 2006 blasts. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted an internal report to the NIA saying only the right-wing Hindutva group activists arrested last year should be probed for the blast.

These nine innocent men have been languishing in jail for the past five years due to an error in the probe on the side of the investigating agencies. Swami Aseemanand had earlier confessed that the blasts were the handiwork of a Hindutva group.
