Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in critical condition

pataudiNew Delhi: Veteran cricketer and former Indian cricket captain, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. He was undergoing treatment at the hospital for lung infection. Doctors of the hospital have stated that he is in a critical condition.

“Mr. Pataudi continues to be critically ill in the intensive care unit of the hospital. He is on very high-level of oxygen support requiring intermitted Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BIPAP) support,” said Senior Consultant and Pulmonology Chairman Neeraj Jainin a health bulletin issued on Wednesday.

“The 70-year-old Pataudi was conscious and his cardiac function was stable. He is being monitored very closely by a team of pulmonologists and critical care specialists,” he added.

“He had been diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, a condition in which the passage of oxygen to the two lungs is less than normal. He is suffering from a disease which does not have proper or permanent cure. It takes time. The patient in such cases breathes out more of carbon dioxide”, a doctor with the hospital said.

Mr. Pataudi’s wife Sharmila Tagore, a former Bollywood actress, is with him. Saif Ali Khan also visited his father several times since he was admitted to the hospital a few weeks ago with breathing problems, the hospital sources said. Kareena Kapoor also visited the ailing former cricketer at the hospital.

Mr. Pataudi played in 46 test matches for India scoring 2793 runs for an average of 34.91 with an unbeaten 203 being his highest score between 1961 and 1975. In all, he smashed six centuries and 16 fifties in his career.
