Medha Patkar expresses solidarity with Paliakkara Samara Samithi

Paliakkara: ‘We shall not permit private monopolies to take over our National Highways’, environmentalist Medha Patkar declared at the  Toll Virudha Samyuktha Samara Samithi meet held at Thrissur. Medha Patkar expressed her solidarity with the protest movement. According to Medha BOD contracts are signed to distribute more than 50 percent of the black money.  The CPIM as well as the ruling UDF have signed the contract because they will receive a portion of the profit earned by the private monopolies, she said.

Kerala is the only state where various political parties unite to fight for the freedom to travel freely along public roads. This is a time when the government is willing to conduct talks with even maoists to resolve issues. However, the chief minister continues to ignore a peaceful protest, for basic rights. To further strengthen the movement so as to be capable to shake the Chief Ministers chair it is essential that the Samara Samithi workers retract from their indefinite strike for now, she opined.

Samara Samithi chairman C J Janardhanan presided over the function. CPI, BJP, Solidarity, Red Flag, NSS, SNDP, Socialist Janatha, PDP were among the 30 groups that participated in the protest. VS Sunil Kumar MLA, Shobha Surendran, MT Ramesh, Rasheed Palezhi, PC Unnichekkan, Adv Manuel, Majeed TM were among those who delivered speeches at the gathering.

The move and momendum of protest against toll at Paliakkara require public support. Specialy that of people residing in and around Thrissur . People who reside in Trichur have thier parents and relatives immediately on the other side of the Toll booth like Amballur, Pudukkad, Mupliyam, Palappilly , Kodali…The charges that the Toll people collects are exhorbitant. Understand UDF and Left parties are not giving any solidarity to this protest. Only the BJP is now in the fore front.
This issue can be settled by two MLA of Thrissur and Ollur if they give solidarity and participate in dharnas so that they fall absent in Assembly meeting. Our humble request to this two MLA s to give support and make the protest become a big success. After all it is for the benefit of the public. .
