Mullaperiyar: Human wall to be formed today

Mullaperiyar Human wall Idukki: Demanding the construction of a new dam, under the leadership of the the left Democratic Front people from different walks of life will join hands to form a 208 km human chain from Mullapeiryar dam to backwaters of Kochi today afternoon.

CPIM leaders Pinarayi Vijayan, Koodiyeri Balakrishnan, Vaikom Vishwan and VS Achuthananthan would be a link in the human chain at Vandiperiyar, Chappa, Kattappana an Marine Drive respectively. The human wall would be formed from 4 to 4.15 today evening. A rehearsal shall be organized at 3.30 pm.

“We will give water, give life” shall be the slogan for the day. Public meetings shall be held at various other districts of Kerala. The wall shall pass through Vallakkadave, Vandiperiyar, Mlamala, Chappath, Aiyyapan Kovil, Kanjiyar, Kattappana, Irattayar, Shanthigram, Malumukku, Kamakshi, Thangamani, Mariyapuram, Idukki, Cheruthoni, Thadiyambad, Karimban, Chelachuvade, Kirithode, Pambla, Lowe Periyar, Neendapara, Neriya mangalam, Kothamangalam, Perumbavur, Aluwa and Eranakulam.

Justice R Krishnan, Prof M K Sanu, Dr Leelavathi, Dr Sebastian Paul, U A Khader, P Vasala, Balachandran Chullikkade, Former Advocate General C P Sudhakara Prasad and M K Damodaran will participate in the event. The wall will also have people from the film world participating the event such as Jayaraj, Ranjith, Kamal, Sibi Malayil and B Unnikrishnan.

The Congress will be organising hunger strikes at district centres with KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala leading the fast in Thiruvananthapuram. The Subject Committee of the State Assembly headed by Water Resources Minister P. J. Joseph is visiting the Mullaperiyar dam as part of further assessment of the condition of the dam by the Committee.
